To gather at the same subject, qualities of the Arab and those of the Thorough-bred could only be tempting. The experiment was tried at the beginning of the XIX ème century in the South of France, then in England and Poland.
It is about 1820 that the reproduction started some. From 1833, the race obtained right of city. it seems that there will be always a prevalence of Arabic in this race whose size varies between 1,45 m and 1,65 Mr.
In 1942, all the Anglo-Arabs were indexed in the same stud-book. To be indexed an Anglo-Arab must have 25% of blood at least Arab. Easy to educate, skilful and intelligent jumpers on the obstacle, they are excellent horses of hunt and often of the champions in horse show. Among the High-speed motorboats of the race, let us quote “Joker VIII cash” wire of “Velox” (33.50% of Arab blood), born in 1921, whose descendants constitute a prestigious line, of many champions of jump of obstacles.
The Anglo-Arab results perhaps from the crossing between the Arab thorough-bred and the English thorough-bred. But it is a horse of French origin.
One can classify the Anglo-Arab in two families:
Anglo-Arabs of the South, coming primarily from Pau and Tarbes. Those produced nimble animals, destinies especially for the light cavalry and the race.
Anglo-Arabs of the Limousin, produced by the standards of the stud farm of pompadour, in Corrèze. Those gave more gifted horses for the horse shows, the cross-country race and hunting.
Many experts par excellence regard the Anglo-Arab as the saddle horse, being appropriate for all the uses because combining the power of the Arab and the speed of the English.
Its dress is alezane or bay, more rarely gray.
Its physical characteristics vary, drawing sometimes towards those from the thorough-bred, sometimes towards those of the Arab. But the proportions of the shoulders, the chest, the depth of the passage of the straps are always excellent.
