Definition: Straps that buckle around the horse or pony’s head to facilitate tying and leading. A horse that is wearing a halter is said to be 'haltered'. A horse that is trained to lead and tie obediently is said to be 'halter broke'. Simply wearing a halter does not make a horse 'halter broke'.
