Police in Lancashire are patrolling the streets on horseback.
Mounted patrols are being increased in the Burnley and Padiham areas of the county in a push to cut crime and reassure the public.
Insp Jes Holland said the patrols had already been "very well received" by the public and allowed officers to reach places inaccessible by car.
"Officers working on the horses can often see activity which might otherwise go unnoticed," he added.
Insp Holland said: "The horses will go wherever we need them but for the time being, they will be patrolling the outskirts of the town centre.
"Their main priority will be to deter criminal activity and to reassure local residents.
"However they will also be doing some targeting work with each mounted officer having been given names and photographs of suspected offenders to look out for."
